Masham Sheep Fair - 26th & 27th September 2026

Masham Sheep Fair

Masham boasts one of the largest and finest market squares in England, famous for its sheep sales where in the past as many as 70,000 sheep were sold each year. The popular Masham Sheep Fair commemorates these times, raising much money for charity, and filling the town with sheep showing, sheepy fun and entertainment. There's always a good atmosphere, some fierce competition and plenty to do.

Susan Cunliffe-Lister and a band of willing volunteers started the Sheep Fair over 40 years ago.

It was intended as a one-off to raise money for farmers in Africa – Sheep Aid. We raised £7,950 and it was decided to make It an annual event. Since then we have raised around £265,000 for Yorkshire charities.

We're hugely grateful to everyone who helps in any way, whether by entering their sheep in the show, taking a stall, buying programmes and paying for parking, advertising and sponsorship, welcoming visitors, setting up and clearing up show, and other valuable support.

The main beneficiary of the Masham Sheep Fair is now Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We also contribute to local charities such as Masham Young Farmers, Masham Sports Association, and Masham School.
